Drifting along a jet stream, a hawk soars high above the Earth.

The rocks where this lighthouse was standing proved to be a nice resting spot for some seabirds.

2012 Photo Challenge – Double Crested Cormorant

Double Crested Cormorant

I mistook this guy for a loon at first, but upon further research discovered his true identity – the double crested cormorant. A very interesting looking bird, and fast when swimming under water. He would dive under one place and pop up way far away.

I Spy... a Human by Corinne Elizabeth Cowherd

I Spy... a Human

Spring always marks the new beginning of birds building nests and this mourning dove is no exception as he watches out for predators… and humans with cameras, while his mate is somewhere building a nest or sitting on some eggs.

2012 Photo Challenge – Keeping an Eye Out

Keeping an Eye Out

A sign that Spring is about to begin or has already begun, are grackles in Southern Ontario. This lone grackle was soon joined by about half-a-dozen more, almost making for a scene right out of “The Birds” as they started to yell at me.

Gold Finch Having a Treat

Hanging upside down, this gold finch tries to get a better angle as he munches away on some birch tree seed pods as they begin in grow.

Talk about being in the right place at the right time! Heard this little guy peeping away and couldn’t figure out where he was at first as he blended in and was so tiny. Just happened to snap the photo as he hung upside down!

One sure sign that green is on it’s way, or already here, is the sight of robins.

Some backyard bird feeders indicate the snow that feel yesterday. But, with the almost clear, blue sky, you might have never have guessed at the flurries.

Photo of the Day – Canada Goose Feather

This Canada Goose Feather was just too interesting a photograph to pass up not taking. It seems to have fallen just right in the grass, as if it wanted it’s photo to be taken. I really like the softness of it compared to the contrasting grass.

Swimming around happily, these white ducks seem to not have a care in the world, except if their picture is going to be taken again. Yes, these are the same silly ducks from a few days ago. This photo was taken after they had all waddled into the water. Are they posing?

This lovely bird, the Wood Thrush, shown here in its infant stage, was of a curiosity to me as they typically do not grace us with their presence in October, when this photograph was taken. They generally don’t appear until the Summer time here in South Western Ontario. A nice surprise, nonetheless!

For the longest time, I had no idea what kind of bird this was so I was just calling it a tropical bird or a colourful bird. While indeed it is both of these, it is in fact a Gouldian Finch. It certainly is a very lovely coloured bird and seems to be posing for the camera. I took the particular photograph at the Butterfly Conservatory in Cambridge, Ontario an number of years ago.

These Curious Swans have swam up close to the shore, wondering who the people are taking their photograph. Perhaps these people even have some food for them. And you guessed right, these are the same swans from yesterday’s photo of the the day. They were just so beautiful, I had to share the other photo I managed to get of them.

These lovely Swans were in a pond at the retirement village that my grandmother lived at. They were very curious, but also very shy. It was difficult to get photographs of them because of this, but they stopped long enough for me to snap a couple photos.

A funny photo of cute ducks, scrambling down a ramp, and practically tripping over each other to get to the nearby pond and away from the person taking their photo. My dad named these guys the Three Stooges because they looked so funny.
