I had mentioned in a previous post that I am having fun creating HDR photographs. Well, I am also having fun creating Sepia photos. Although, not as complex to create as HDR with today’s software programs (although HDR is easier to create now, too), Sepia photos can made some photographs look really quite striking. It can also be more forgiving with what you might consider slight flaws in your colour photograph. Black and White can be like that, too! With many software programs you can also add “fade” and/or “glow” effects to your Sepia photos and “noise” to make the image look old, or just plain cool. Some of the newer digital cameras also come with a Sepia effect already built in. I prefer to take the photos in colour first, then transform them after.
Anyway, there are also some photographs, at least from what I have found, that just scream to be made into Sepia and/or you know would look pretty amazing in Sepia. Below are just a few examples of some of those photographs that I had taken recently at Mohawk Park in Brantford, Ontario. The trees there were such great subjects to snap images of! Like I said, I first took these in colour, then transformed them into what you see below.

I took this photograph while on a nature hike along the trails of Apps Mill. The leaves were all afire of colour with pretty oranges, yellows, and reds as well as some green that was still yet to turn. What made the day even better was the blue sky. This is just one of many of the photographs that I took that day, but this one particularly caught my eye because of the different layers and variety of colours.
When this photograph was snapped, I thought how interesting the tall trees look with a blanket of green above and below, very whimsical. When I I looked at the photograph when I got home, I realised how lovely the sunlight looks through the green leaves. Still a whimsical look, but now with Green Sunlight.
I took this photograph along the rocky banks of Whitemans Creek. I took this photograph when I noticed what a wonderful contrast the red of the maple leaf made against the browns and grays of the rocks as well as the hard and soft of the two textures.
