Photo of the Day – Canada Goose Feather

Canada Goose Feather by Corinne Elizabeth Cowherd

This Canada Goose Feather was just too interesting a photograph to pass up not taking. It seems to have fallen just right in the grass, as if it wanted it’s photo to be taken. I really like the softness of it compared to the contrasting grass.

Swimming around happily, these white ducks seem to not have a care in the world, except if their picture is going to be taken again. Yes, these are the same silly ducks from a few days ago. This photo was taken after they had all waddled into the water. Are they posing?

This lovely bird, the Wood Thrush, shown here in its infant stage, was of a curiosity to me as they typically do not grace us with their presence in October, when this photograph was taken. They generally don’t appear until the Summer time here in South Western Ontario. A nice surprise, nonetheless!

For the longest time, I had no idea what kind of bird this was so I was just calling it a tropical bird or a colourful bird. While indeed it is both of these, it is in fact a Gouldian Finch. It certainly is a very lovely coloured bird and seems to be posing for the camera. I took the particular photograph at the Butterfly Conservatory in Cambridge, Ontario an number of years ago.

These Curious Swans have swam up close to the shore, wondering who the people are taking their photograph. Perhaps these people even have some food for them. And you guessed right, these are the same swans from yesterday’s photo of the the day. They were just so beautiful, I had to share the other photo I managed to get of them.

These lovely Swans were in a pond at the retirement village that my grandmother lived at. They were very curious, but also very shy. It was difficult to get photographs of them because of this, but they stopped long enough for me to snap a couple photos.

A funny photo of cute ducks, scrambling down a ramp, and practically tripping over each other to get to the nearby pond and away from the person taking their photo. My dad named these guys the Three Stooges because they looked so funny.

Photo of the Day – Red-eared Slider Turtles

Red-eared Slider Turtles by Corinne Elizabeth Cowherd

Two Red-eared Slider Turtles crawl up on shore onto some rocks to have a closer look at the people gathered around them. They are just so interesting to look at, and so are the turtles. One of these guys is the same turtle from the past two photos of the day, but I’m not sure which. I was very surprised at how close they got to the edge of the stream and to humans.

This is the same Red-eared Slider Turtle from yesterday’s Photo of the Day, but, of course, a close up image. He hadn’t moved from the rock and was sure looking intently at something for a long time. I wonder if his neck got sore from all that stretching. I love how you can see his webbed feet in this photograph and his tail.

This Red-eared Slider Turtle stretches his neck out to get a better look at his surroundings, and all the people staring at him. He looks so peaceful sitting on his rock in the middle of a stream. This was taken at the Butterfly Conservatory in Cambridge. I never realised just how many different animals like the humidity in there!

From Central and South America, this pretty little butterfly named the Tarricina was one of my favourites of the day with it’s lovely copper and black wings. It hung out on this leaf for the longest time, taking in it’s surroundings.

Photo of the Day – Tailed Jay Butterfly with Wings Open

This pretty Tailed Jay Butterfly comes from Southeast Asia and was my most favourite when I went to the Butterfly Conservatory. And as you may recall from the March 27th photo of the day, when the wings are closed, they have a lovely teal colour. Certainly not the same beautiful, lime green colour they are when they are open. Such a nice surprise!

Photo of the Day – Small Postman Butterfly

Found in Central and South America, these little guys were very fast and didn’t like their photo being taken. I was so happy when I captured this one! I love the contrast with the red, yellow, and black in his wings. They almost clash with the pink flower this guy is sitting on, but look so pretty at the same time.

Photo of the Day – Male Rumanzovia Swallowtail Butterfly

From Southeast Asia, this male Rumanzovia Swallowtail opens wide it’s wings, showing off it’s lovely black and white colouring. Perhaps he is trying to attract the female Rumanzovia Swallowtail Butterfly from the photo of the day that was posted yesterday.

From Southeast Asia, this female Rumanzovia Swallowtail opens wide it’s wings, showing off it’s lovely black and red colouring. I love the stark contrast between the butterfly wings and the green leaf that she is sitting on, yet they seem to blend beautifully.

Photo of the Day – Rice Paper Butterfly

Rice Paper Butterfly by Corinne Elizabeth Cowherd

Rice Paper Butterfly by Corinne Elizabeth Cowherd

From Southeast Asia, this Rice Paper Butterfly sure looks pretty as it takes a sip of nectar from a tropical, purple flower. Accented with green foliage. These particular butterflies were greatly abundant the day I took this photo. They would even gather in 6 or more along the walls of the conservatory.
